iving in this new-age of techno-invasion, one becomes a mute witness to a host of our ancient traditions fast slipping into oblivion. The Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi in an effort to revive those rare 'forgotten' traditions, which reflected our secular fabric, has been closely working with Indian classical music and its different forms. As a part of this endeavour, the Akademi has been organising various musical extravaganzas to mark spring and the monsoons during the past six years now.
Basant is touted to be one of the key seasons of our country. Being the first major festive season of the year, it is celebrated with great religious fervour and fanfare in different parts of the country. This year, on the occasion of Basant Panchmi the Akademi is all set to organize the festival in the form of a musical soiree, with a classical rendition by Padma Vibhushan Sangeet Martand Pt. Jasraj at Tagore Theatre on February 12, 2013.
This year for the smooth functioning of the event the Akademi has kept the entry open to music lovers strictly by invitation only, which will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. While informing about the event Kamal Tewari, Chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi, says, "Pandit Jaraj is a highly esteemed icon of international acclaim and, keeping in view his huge fans that are expected to attend the event, we have taken this step by allowing entry strictly by pass as also to pre-empt chances of an avoidable chaos at the venue." As yellow is the colour of Basant, Akademi has requested all the guests to grace the event wearing something in yellow.
