This year too, keeping the spirits high, rallyists from Chandigarh participated in one of the toughest and most popular rallies of the country -the Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2013.
Sunny Sidhu who is a champion rallyist from Chandigarh ended up with second position in the recently concluded Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm 2013. He is also going to become the first rallyist from Chandigarh to represent India in the Asia Pacific Rally Championship (APRC) in July. Sunny who was sponsored by JK Tyres at this series of international championships, will represent India and will participate in the Australia, New Zealand and Japan rounds of the APRC this year.
The Desert Storm is among the most grueling and challenging motorsport events of the country and this year it started from New Delhi and finished at Jaipur. The rally traversed 2,220 kilometers over the wild outback of Sardarshahar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jaipur. Sunny participated in Rally Xtreme, which is mostly about high speed, and is the toughest category of competitive rallying, and grabbed the Overall Second Trophy in this challenging rally, driving the Mahindra Thar.
Sunny, who has won Desert Storm six times, while talking to media said, "Grabbing the second position in Desert Storm is a great achievement. Though one cannot compare coming second to coming first, yet it means a lot. The thrill of speed and also of competing with the best in the country at this event is what makes me participate in the rally year after year. This rally is all about testing one's own limits, and of the vehicle."
The rally is among the few cross-country motorsport rallies of the world that boasts of extremely testing night-driving. This is a high-speed, highly competitive and exciting motorsport event which yields great visuals.
