Students from ISB who will be mentored for a day by CEOs of some top companies
tudents of the Indian School of Business (ISB) are getting a chance to 'Shadow a CEO' for a day. Initiated in September 2009 as a part of the Joy of Giving Week 'Shadow a CEO' is a charitable initiative by ISB, in collaboration with the Give India Foundation. Both the students and the CEO contribute to this cause by raising funds which then goes to an NGO of the CEO's choice.
This unique programme provides a platform to business students to connect with stalwarts in an informal atmosphere. It not only gives them an opportunity to scrutinise the working of top leaders, but also get hands-on experience on how decisions are made.
Out of 17 ISB students, 10 from the Mohali campus have got this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This year, some CEOs of top companies including Aditya Birla group, Infosys, Bharti group, the Times group, Piramal group, Wipro, Max India, SREI Infrastructure, HUL and ITC among others have agreed to participate in the programme.
Excited about the programme, Amit Sethi, student at ISB who is going to shadow Kumar Mangalam Birla, CEO of Aditya Birla Group, says, "Having learnt about Kumar Mangalam Birla's vision, decisions and actions through case studies and theoretical learning, during my classes, I am intrigued about him. I would like to learn his ways of functioning, decision-making and execution, and what it takes to physically translate the vision of the Aditya Birla Group into successful actions. Although one day is too small to learn it all, a few key lessons or observations will definitely help me improve my thinking and realign my focus before I move into a new career after my MBA programme is over."
Anirudh Gupta, who is going to shadow Narayana Murthy, CEO of Infosys, is equally excited about the programme. He says, "Coming from the IT services industry, Shadow-a-CEO gives me the perfect opportunity to build on the academic learning and interact with one of the leaders of this industry. Meeting Narayana Murthy will help me understand what corporate India feels about the future of India's low cost service offerings. I am confident that my interaction with him will help me understand what it takes to be a successful leader."
