ith the pre-monsoon showers hitting the state, the rains offer us instant respite from the scorching heat wave. And, yes, there's someone who has more to offer to the Chandigarh residents than just throwing poolside parties or a splash in the swimming pool as a matter of routine. Gagan Kaur, a national-level swimmer and a prominent danseuse, has introduced Pool Therapy at the Gymkhana Club, MDC that she manages while conducting her dance classes. She believes the therapy would go a long way in benefitting a large number of people.
"Water always offers a Midas touch, be it drinking to quench thirst, or getting drenched in the rain, soothing yourself by dangling your feet in the river, or simply enjoying the divine music created by serenading streams and waterfalls. I have always been a water person but I wanted to do something unique and innovative, going an extra mile beyond swimming. During my short stay in the US, I watched people doing multifarious sports activities there as a therapeutic tool, which greatly inspired me. It was here where the theme therapy was conceived. The therapy will prove beneficial for those suffering from a nagging muscular pain, thigh pain, backache, body ache, stress and even migraine," says Kaur.
Kaur, who also teaches bally dance, zumba, ball room, salsa and other dance forms to upcoming young dancers as well as pentagenarians, wanted to give an extra edge to her students by mixing dance with the new-found Pool Therapy. "My classes have a five-day week schedule, including one day mandatory pool activity. It has two-fold benefits in terms of maintaining a sound health and help overcoming their water phobia," adds Kaur.
Kaur is passionate about dancing and at bringing varied dance forms of India and abroad to the city.
