The Rally Champion - Suresh Rana with the winning trophies
In any sport ascending to number 1 position is a result of passion and zeal but reigning at number 1 position is a paradigm of sheer grit and determination. Manali lad Suresh Rana, better known as the champion of hills has proved it right by bagging the 'Raid De Himalaya' title trophy for the ninth time, fourth consecutive in a row.
Driver Suresh Rana with his navigator Ashwini Naik successfully raided the 15th edition of Maruti Suzuki 'Raid de Himalaya', the most exciting motorsport event in India that culminated in Leh after cruising over 1800 kms in the most uncongenial freezing temperatures at the highest motorable passes. Suresh Rana and Ashwin Naik drove a Grand Vitara and were crowned champions in the X-Treme four wheeler (4W) category. This is Naik's second title in the championship.
The duo registered their win in 9 hours 46 minutes and 23 seconds, way ahead of Sanjay Agarwal and Shiv Prakash who finished as first runner ups.
Rallying at one of the highest nerve-wracking altitude in the world at 6,000 meters above sea level, the tranquilising panoramic view of the valley through the tough terrains of the great Himalayas and Leh becomes moment of a lifetime for the participants.
