e saw Anil Kapoor hosting a reality show in Academy Award winning film Slumdog Millionaire, but his role in the eighth season of the action series 24 and also in Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, became the reason behind his international appeal.
Now, Kapoor is all set to take on the small screen with the Indian adaptation of 24 on Colors. He believes that the shows being aired on the Indian television have become mundane and repetitive. "Not just the audience but the channels too are looking for something different. I had received various offers for reality shows earlier but kept refusing them. 24 will indeed be a challenge, but I've analyzed the series very closely and have found that the script is remarkable and the outcome will definitely be overwhelming."
Kapoor plays the role of Jai Singh Rathod, head of the Anti-Terrorist Unit, in the show. He has bought the rights the complete suspense-thriller, that had became the longest running television drama ever on the American Television, and believes that the Indian adaption will do well too. "Casting the stars for different roles wasn't really a challenge as the series is quite popular and everyone wanted to be a part of it. However, the most demanding task was working on the character of Jai Singh Rathod. I wanted to recreate what Sean Connery is to James Bond, Jack Bauer is to 24 and I'll be more than happy if I can achieve even 60 per cent of it."
Besides Kapoor, the cast includes Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, Rahul Khanna, Tisca Chopra and Mandira Bedi. The show has been directed by Abhinay Deo and the story for the Indian adaptation is by Rensil D'Silva.
