Spanish tennis coach Juan Carlos Andrade's tour to India after more than two decades was an eye opener as he was impressed by the conditions prevalent in the country.
Juan, who attained his career best ranking of 170 is in the city to share his expertise with the youngsters. "Indian children are focused, meticulous and above all, are passionate about the game. I believe, any player, who is confident of his skills, performs well, possesses great competitive spirit, can handle pressure well."
"My earlier visit to India was memorable but, yes, the current one, is all the more meaningful. The India that I saw 25 years ago, is totally different than what it is today - entirely changed for the better.
Juan who is the head coach at the Madrid Tennis Federation, feels the modern day facilities greatly enhance a player's abilities. "With better training sessions, coaches, facilities, courts, physiotherapists, nutritionists and psychologists I think the youngsters now can make it to the top rankings of the world. They definitely have now better chances to win titles than before."
On his second sojourn, Juan vividly recalls his first visit to India as an active tennis player. He went down the memory lane as he remembered playing against the top Indian players at that time. "Playing against the likes of Nandan Bal, Ramesh Krishnan (Doubles) and Srinivasan Vasudevan had been a wonderful experience and those were indeed good competitive matches."
The Spanish coach was all praise for CHARTS (Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis). "I appreciate the unique initiative by CLTA that helps children from the rural area to fulfill their dreams to clinch newer heights in the game. These children from villages and financially weaker backgrounds demonstrate more dedication and passion, which is good for any player."
Juan has never worked with the Spanish star, Rafael Nadal, but is a close friend of Toni Nadal, Rafael's uncle.
