ith summer vacations round the corner, dance enthusiast kids cannot ask for more than investing learning various dance forms under the tutelage of veteran choreographer Saroj Khan.
Dance director & choreographer, Saroj Khan, has come a long way to train kids at her dance academy in Chandigarh. She is here in a new avatar to train kids as well as adults at the well-meaning summer dance workshops being organised in five tricity schools. She held a special interactive session with dance aspirants and their parents during her recent visit to Chandigarh.
Khan said, "We are gradually forgetting the age-old traditional and cultural dance forms that once held sway over audiences, and offered an insight to the ancient cultural heritage of the country. Even though our dance forms are a class apart, we are getting inclined to the so-called 'contemporary' dance forms, which are corroding our robust traditional folk forms."
While talking about the workshop, Khan added, "My team of choreographers constitutes professionals, who are well versed with the diverse themes and forms of dance. They will train the kids, as they are capable of teaching aspirants belonging to different age groups. I firmly believe in the dance troupe's crispy punch line — ABCD — which means 'Anybody Can Dance' and I can say for sure that there is a dancer inside every one of us." The 'Danse Gurukool' Summer Camp is slated from May 27 to June 12, during which the trainees will get a chance to be face-to-face with Saroj Khan and pick up some dancing tips.
The workshop is being organised simultaneously by Khan in 8 cities across the country and her guiding theme this season is to train kids and adults hailing from non-metro cities.
The focus during the workshop will be on various dance forms, which include salsa, hip-hop, jive, folk, kathak, bharatnatyam, bollywood, and contemporary.
