he Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi is all set to host the 6thAnnual Kabir Festival titled 'Suno Bhai Sadho' on 25 & 26 March at Tagore Theatre.
Kamal Tiwari, Chairman, Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi said, "The mysticism in Kabir's bani is serene and people have been listening to and singing them for ages now. The sole aim behind organising this festival is to contemporanise Kabir's works and highlight the relevance of his teachings which, though age old, are extremely avant-garde."
Siman Onkar, a psychologist by profession, has been associated with the festival since its inception. He said, "The objective of this festival is to re-circulate the progressive ideas instilled by Kabir in popular imagination. His spectrum of his work is vast and intriguing. During the two day festival, participants try to interpret Kabir through cinema, theatre, art, music etc."
Kabir's works include dohaas, sakhis, sholakas, bijak and his poetic works are referred to as banis. During the two day festival Mahesha Ram from Rajasthan, Padmashri Madhup Mudgal, and Ustad Sawan Khan will perform Kabir bani & other Sufi compositions by Bulleh Shah and other poets, whereas Dr. Jagir Singh will recite Kabir bani from the Guru Granth Sahib.
