Manipur claims sub junior sepak takraw title

he boys' and girls' team from Manipur won the overall title of Sub Junior Sepak Takraw Championship held at Mount Carmel School, Chandigarh. There was tough competition as more than 23 teams from all over the country participated in the tournament.
Sepak Takraw is one of the most popular sports in Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and it differs from volleyball. A rattan ball is used in the game and players have to use only their feet, knee, chest and head to touch the ball for scoring.
Overwhelmed by the team's achievement P. Durjit Singh, the coach of boys team said, "During the last tournament the team won the silver medal at the junior level and today, they outperformed all the other teams and bagged the overall trophy at sub-junior level. This is the result of great team effort coupled with their hard work, coordination and dedication."
Manipur defeated Delhi in the final round to win the title whereas the girl's team routed Orissa in the finals to clinch the title.
