GMSSS Club beat the LIC Club

In the nail biting final match of Senior State Women Cricket Championship for Dr. K.B.S. Dhillon Trophy the GMSSS Club, Sector 56 crushed LIC Club, Sector-26 by 22 runs and took home the title trophy.
Electing to bat, GMSSS Club scored 121 for nine wickets in allotted 25 over. In reply LIC Club were all-out for 99 runs. The losing team could not sustain for more than 23.1 over.
Organized under the aegis of The Chandigarh Women Cricket Association the tournament witnessed a huge participation and fresh talent. The association has been working dedicatedly for the last 30 years to promote women cricket in Chandigarh. It has organized several National and International matches in the region to provide an international exposure to aspiring as well as professional woman cricketers.
Rani Sharma, general secretary, Woman Cricket Association told The Sunday Guardian, "In today's world woman are rubbing shoulders with men in every sphere and in India, where cricket is not just a game but a religion, providing a platform to the aspiring woman cricketers becomes a responsibility and duty so that they can make a mark in the cricket arena."
Echoing the same views, Satinder Dhillon, president of the association said, "We have been constantly organizing this tournament so that the talented girls who aspire to become cricketers get a platform to showcase their innate talent and passion for the game. It gives motivation to those who leave their dreams midway due to a reason or the other."
Chief guest Nirmal Singh Dhillon, chairman, management committee Dev Samaj College, gave away the prizes to the winners. Mamta was declared best bats woman of the tournament, Rachna best bowler of tournament and Asha Negi was crowned woman of the Final match. All the winners were from the winning team.
"Maintaining a good health should be our major focus. Because the age old saying 'Health is Wealth' is appropriate even today. Woman cricketers can use our college ground to practice and enhance their gamming skills. We offer this ground for cricket practice to the woman cricketers free of cost," said Nirmal Singh.
Sole motto of the tournament is to promote woman cricket in the region hence there is no age limit for the players and there is no entry fee too. Anyone with passion for the game can be a part of this tournament.
